Camera drain inspections
We use state of the art CCTV snaking camera to look for common problems with your drains such as sags, tree roots, broken and crushed pipes or cross boring from other utilities. This technology allows us to specifically identify the location of problems so that we can fix them with as little disruption and damage as possible.
Plugged (blocked) Drain Pipes
Plugged drain pipes are a common plumbing problem caused by buildup, tree roots, broken pipes and more. For proper drain cleaning, A. McKenna has solutions to every plugged drain problem, including hydro jetting and drain snaking.
Sewer Back Ups
Sewer backups can be one of the worst experiences that can affect a homeowner; a messy and expensive proposition when it happens. Some of the common causes are blockages in the sanitary main, heavy rainfall, foreign object buildup, tree roots, grease, and more.
A. McKenna Plumbing provides some simple preventative measures to help protect you from a backup. Normally we start with an inspection to identify any potential problems. A backflow prevention valve can temporarily block the sewer lines in the case where fluid flows back in the wrong direction. We strongly recommend that you consult with us about the right backflow prevention valve for your plumbing system. Improperly installed BPV's can contribute to and be the main cause of a sewer backup.
Drain Snaking
One of the leading ways to get rid of foreign object obstructions in your drain pipes, such as paper towels, kitty litter, diapers, or other items that should never be flushed down a toilet. A. McKenna has a variety of drain snakes that are applicable in many different situations. From in-home snakes that are designed to clear pesky obstructions, to aggressive bladed snakes to clear more substantial drain blockages for commercial businesses.
Tree Root Removal
Tree roots are a common hazard for your drain pipes. In fact, certain types of trees have roots that like to seek out drain pipes, wrap around them and penetrate them to get at the water. When they become a problem, A. McKenna Plumbing has an aggressive type of bladed drain snake that can cut through tree roots and free up your drain pipes.
Hydro Jetting
A great way to clear many drain obstructions. We use high-pressure water to force a breakage in an obstruction. Over many years, you would be surprised at the amount of buildup that you accumulate on the inside walls of your pipes. Hydro jetting removes the majority of this debris and leaves your pipes flowing smoothly.
Avoiding Clogged Drains
To avoid clogs altogether, we recommend only flushing toilet paper and human waste down your toilet and nothing else. This includes baby wipes, dental floss, hair from your brush, paper towels, q-tips and cotton balls. All of these can lead to a stubborn clog as debris in your pipes will build up over time.
For kitchen sinks, only water and liquids should ever go down the drain. Avoid washing rice, eggshells, cooking grease, and coffee grounds. These items can easily create stubborn clogs and slow drains. For bacon grease and other oils, the municipality of Halton suggests soaking it up in paper towels and tossing it in your green bin or putting your cooking ware into the fridge so the oil can harden where it can then be scraped into a lined green bin.
To avoid clogged shower drains, use a hair catcher. This comes in handy if someone in your household has long hair, as hair is the biggest culprit for shower clogs. Hair catchers are also helpful if you wash your pet in your tub or sink.
